Wabi-Sabi

Wabi-sabi is a Japanese aesthetic philosophy that celebrates imperfection, impermanence, and the beauty of the natural world. It emphasizes simplicity, authenticity, and the appreciation of things as they are, including their flaws and signs of aging.

When applied to denim, wabi-sabi emphasizes the beauty of raw, unrefined textures, irregularities, and the natural aging process of the fabric. This philosophy celebrates the unique characteristics that develop over time, such as fading, whiskering, and wear patterns, which make each pair of jeans one-of-a-kind.

Wabi-sabi in denim values craftsmanship, authenticity, and the organic evolution of the material, embracing imperfections as part of its charm and story.

Craftmanship

Companion Denim´s Joel Wabi-Sabi raw selvedge denim will be cut, sewn and finished by no more than 2 pairs of hands in our workshop located in the heart of Sabadell, a town in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
We are using a mix of both vintage and modern sewing machines which we have collected through years. We only work with the machinery that offers the highest quality and most reliable stitchings for jeans making.
Companion denim is built on the values of quality, durability, honesty and respect for the environment.

Care

We always recommend to “wear as much as possible, wash as little as possible”. The more you wear your jeans, the better they will look.
Following this principle and washing your jeans after 6-8 months of wear should already show some nice fadings and strong character. However, we aren´t too dogmatic on this. If you need or feel like washing your jeans before that time, do it without regrets.
Wash the jeans inside out in cold temperature or in 40ºc maximum, without using any bleach or chlorine chemicals.
Do not tumble dry the jeans as it can damage some of the materials. Hang dry them instead, as it will also avoid the need of ironing.
